The African penguin is the continent's only flightless seabird. A colony near Boulders, in Cape Town, is one of the areas main tourist attractions. Highly endangered, the penguins are very susceptible to oil spills. They breed throughout the year, but mainly from March to May in South Africa, and November to December in Namibia.
