Summary: The objectives of project LMR/COM/03/01 were to broadly determine what community groups exist in the coastal areas of the BCLME and to identify certain pilot projects that might be undertaken on a community basis. The report’s findings point to ways in which the BCLME Programme can play a catalytic role in bringing about community involvement in issues of concern to the BCLME Programme and the region.
Over a two-year period, a number of field trips were undertaken to selected areas along the 4 000km coastline of the BCLME. Discussions were held with community members and stakeholders with a view to determining how coastal inhabitants can be involved in the BCLME Programme in a manner that is meaningful to them, while at the same time advancing the overall goals of the Programme.
