the users of RAK to evaluate how well they can apply some of the factual
knowledge about the physical and geological features to broader questions
and issues concerning the Mekong basin as well as to other aspects of
river science.
1. What are five different
ways in which one species of fish can differ from another species? Why
do fish differ from each other in these ways?
2. Explain what is meant by
the following terms related to the ecology of fish:
1. life cycle
2. migration
3. spawning
4. carnivorous
3. Discuss in general terms the importance of
the floodplain as an important fish habitat and explain how it is used
by certain fish during part of their life cycle.
4. Discuss the importance
of migration to the ecology of Mekong River fish and explain the difference
in the habitats and patterns of migration between whitefish and blackfish.
5. Explain the relationship between river ecology,
the seasonal behaviour of fish and the tremendous diversity of fishing
gear and fishing methods used to harvest fish.
