GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN CCAI

Traditionally, women in the Mekong Basin are often involved in the management, maintenance, and conservation of natural resources for collective and community consumption. They also often have very detailed knowledge of their local environment.
The MRC is actively seeking to include women in the climate change decision-making processes, taking advantage of their often unique skill and experience.

With support a network of regional gender specialists, the MRC will mainstream gender in all climate change activities, such as vulnerability assessments; adaptation activities; planning and implementation; and policy advocacy; in order to benefit from the knowledge and specialized skills of women in mitigation and adaptation strategies, as well as to ensure that the initiative benefits men and women equally in accordance with their different needs, and with the input and equal participation of men and women at all levels.
