Cooperation Agreements (Partners)

The MRC works with many different partners under jointly funded projects, under formal Memoranda of Understanding or in a research capacity.

Current

  1. AFD Francaise De Developpement: Mekong-HYCOS Project and Water Management
  2. ASEAN Secretariat provides support to Initiative on Sustainable Hydropower Programme in Lower Mekong Basin in relation to Cumulative Trans-boundary Impacts
  3. Asian Disaster Preparedness Center collaborates with MRC on operations and research in meteorology, hydrology, flood management, capacity building of emergency personnel in MRC member countries, development programmes in Mekong river basin, dissemination of flood preparedness, forecasting and warning information to community level.
  4. Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and Viet Nam National Mekong Committee (VNMC), Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control Secretariat (CCFSCS) cooperate with MRC on the Implementation of Projects under Component 4 – "Flood Emergency Management Strengthening", MRC's Flood Management and Mitigation Progamme.
  5. Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) collaborates with MRC in a project titled "Stock structure of two important Mekong River carp species (Henicorynchus spp)."
  6. Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research collaborates with MRC on Challenge Programme on Water and Food (CPWF), a research for-development programme that operates through a global network of partnerships and seeks to develop innovative ways of producing more food with less water.
  7. Canadian Space Agency and the Natural Resources Canada works in partnership with MRC on Earth Observation and Geometrics Support for Flood Management and Environmental Monitoring in the Mekong River Basin
  8. European Commission cooperates with MRC on Capacity building for planning and implementation of flood preparedness programme at Provincial and District levels in the Lower Mekong Basin (Phase II)
  9. Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN collaborates on a project of improvement of Irrigation Efficiency on Paddy Fields in the Lower Mekong Basin (IIEPF-AEWEPF)
  10. German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) contributes to the MRC Result Base Monitoring and Evaluation
  11. Intergovernmental Organisation of the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA). MRC Fisheries Programme cooperates with NACA in activities related to fisheries research, management and publication of fisheries-related information.
  12. International Network of Basin Organisations
  13. International Network for Water and Ecosystems in Paddy Fields (INWEPF): MRC Agriculture, Irrigation and Forestry Programme participates in INWEPF symposium/steering committee and exchanges knowledge/views with other countries/international organisations.
  14. International Water Management Institute (IWMI) collaborates with MRC on strategic review of MRC’s involvement in the agriculture sector.
  15. IUCN - The World Conservation Union collaborates with MRC on policy framework development, management planning under the framework of the project "Mekong River Basin Wetland Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use Programme."
  16. National Center of Competence in Research North-South, Center for Development and Environment; University of Berne cooperates in activities related to data and information sharing for research purposes, support to MRC in research-related aspects through interdisciplinary scientific capacity.
  17. National Institute of Rural Engineering (NIRE), Japan collaborates in the areas of research, training and information activities with the emphasis on water resources management for poverty reduction, water utilisation, basin development plan, agriculture, irrigation and forestry programme, and water resources and hydrology programme.
  18. Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA) cooperates with MRC in aquatic resources management for the rural poor, education and training activities, guideline development for policy and best management practices for inland fisheries.
  19. Network of Asian River Basin Organisations collaborates with MRC on information exchange and training.
  20. Permanent International Navigation Association: As an institutional member in the association for many years, Mekong River Commission is, since 2009, also seated in the Inland Navigation Committee, the most important committee coordinating international working groups which develop regular technical updates on pressing global issues to benefits members on shared best practices.
  21. Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre cooperates with MRC primarily in aquaculture-related activities, as well as capture fisheries and reservoirs fisheries management.
  22. Southeast Asia START Regional Center (SEA START RC) cooperates in study and related project activities regarding climate change and adaptation, hydrological studies of the Mekong River Basin, sharing of knowledge and information on operational modeling capabilities.
  23. UN ESCAP (UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific). UN ESCAP is an observer in MRC governance meetings (Donor Consultative Group), and MRC shares report to Annual Sessions of UNESCAP.
  24. UNESCO/IHE Institute for Water Education Cooperation collaborates with MRC on short courses, degree training for riparian country professionals, technical support and quality assurance as well as mapping institutional capacity and capacity building of local institutions
  25. WorldFish Centre collaborates with MRC on fisheries research, preparation of solicited reports, modelling and socio-economic studies related to fisheries.
  26. World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) collaborates on operations and research in meteorology, hydrology, flood management and water resources and in improving flood forecasting and warning systems
  27. World Wide Fund for Nature works with MRC on cooperative arrangements at the national, and Mekong Basin levels in the areas of watershed management, sustainable use of natural resources and other water-related resources, promotion of renewable energies, flood management and mitigation solutions.
