Activities undertaken
during the reporting period:
Dr Bolshov and Dr Aladin have prepared the first draft of the
regional biodiversity report.
Reports on Caspian Sea habitats have been prepared in
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan and are awaited from Iran, Russia and Turkmenistan.
A report is being prepared with OKIOC on the establishment of
a permanent Biodiversity CRTC, fully equipped and staffed, with a structured training
programme.
Work has begun in trying to establish a full checklist of
flora and fauna for the Caspian.
Dr Bolshov has stepped down as the Director of the CRTC, but
will remain senior technical officer. A replacement for Dr Bolshov has yet been found.
Activities to be undertaken in the next three months:
Plans for the permanent Biodiversity center will be finalized
Systematic monitoring of the Kazakh sector will begin early
summer
Two young scientists are to be trained in the Zoological
Institute in St.Petersberg and will then take up permanent positions in the Biodiversity
CRTC in Atyrau.
The third Biodiversity workshop will take place in early June
in Atyrau.
