Sweden pushes for action on Baltic pollution

Environment Daily 1876, 11/05/05

A call for an international task force including the EU to tackle pollution in the Baltic Sea is among highlights in Sweden's latest sustainable development bill published on Tuesday.  The bill outlines over 70 different measures, including that stopping biodiversity loss by 2010 be designated Sweden's 16th national environmental quality objective.

Other priorities include the establishment of 14 new marine reserves, control of toxic substances in building materials, and a campaign for public access to product information under the Reach EU chemical policy.
