New slide series: The Baltic Sea transparencies

The Baltic Sea transparencies and booklet provide information on geography, hydrography and ecosystem of the Baltic and also on the environmental problems and protection of the sea areas.

This slide series on Baltic Sea has been developed by a group of Baltic Sea scientists mainly from Helsinki University, Finnish Marine Research institute and Environmental Administration of Finland. The content of this series is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the environment and ecology of the Baltic. The second one elucidates the challenges and the means that can influence the future of the Baltic.

Dr Eeva Furman, Dr Pentti Välipakka and Dr Heikki Salemaa were responsible for the scientific planning and editing of the first edition of the english version. Dr Riggert Munsterhjelm made a major contribution by revising the slides for the Swedish version. Ms Anna Nöjd revised the first English version on the basis of the Swedish edition to this second edition. Mr Petri Kuokka of Aarnipaja has been responsible for the graphic design of the slides and the users guide.

Along the years, several scientists have provided invaluable information for the work. The production of the slide series has been sponsored along the years by various sources, the main ones being: The Ministry of the Environment, The Nessling Foundation, National Board of Education, Economic Information Office of Finnish Industries, City of Kotka, University of Helsinki, Finnish Environment Institute, Southeast Finland Regional Environment Centre, Junior Chamber Kotka and The Nottbeck Foundation.
