On occasion of Danube Day 2009, the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) invited stakeholders from all riparian countries to participate in the second basin-wide stakeholder forum, which was held in Bratislava, as Slovakia is the currently presiding country of the Commission.

In the context of efforts to promote the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) in the entire Danube basin, the ICPDR, in its role as platform for coordination, has during the past years put a special emphasis on the promotion of public participation on a basin-wide scale.

The forum aimed to bring stakeholder groups together and serve as a platform for the discussion of the draft Danube River Basin Management Plan. Specifically, the following issues, which are the key topics of the draft Danube River Basin Management were addressed in the context of the forum:

  • pollution by organic substances and nutrients
  • pollution by hazardous substances
  • hydromorphological alterations
  • groundwater issues
In the section outcomes you can find the final report and all presentations.
