What is the Joint Database?


Joint Database (JD) is a web-enabled database, and provides a means of organizing, storing and displaying data in a uniform format to facilitate sharing in Albania and Montenegro, and beyond. JD has been adapted for a database technology and has simple and user-friendly features that makes data accessible and can be used to read reports, presentations and advocacy materials. The JD is also an important tool to assert itself as the key institution for data collection, management and dissemination.

  1. Funding: Grant obtained in the framework of the LSIEMP;
  2. Purpose: The main purpose of Joint Database is a) to establish a three lingual (English-Albanian-Montenegrin) database for storing, managing, retrieving and updating available and existing information on Lake Skadar-Shkodra in both Albania and Montenegro;
  3. Target Group Users: To facilitate use of data for analysis by policy makers and other users: Ministries, local institutions on both countries, regional and international scientists and research institutions, Universities, NGOs, Students and communities;
  4. Final outcome: An on-line, easily-accessible, user-friendly database of various sources of information on Shkodra/Skadar Lake.

JDB is a comprehensive and up-to-date socio-economic and various sources of information database on Shkodra/Skadar Lake that provides:

  1. Facilitates the systematization, storage and analysis of performance indicators in different thematic areas of interest for different users.
  2. Allows the downloading, uploading and use of the information in three languages (Albanian-English-Montenegrin)
  3. Allows a user-friendly database of different frameworks (legislation, development plans, strategies, etc); sectors and sub-sectors (economy, employment, education, agriculture, fisheries, industries, tourism, environment, etc.); by themes (water quality, biomass, biological features of flora and fauna, etc.)
  4. Enables browsing of information by institutions (national and local level governmental institutions), by research institutions (NGOs, Universities), by international organizations; by sources when available in three languages.
  5. Provides updated information on Shkodra/Skadar Lake by time of report publications and enable browsing by year.
  6. Enables user-friendly of the searching options by "key words" and "advanced search", while establishing multiple filters.
  7. Facilitates the users with technical support that provides step by step orientation for use of the database.

1. The overall purpose of the Joint Database is to establish a database for storing, managing, retrieving and updating available and existing information for Shkodra/Skadar Lake. The long term aim of the database is thought to be relevant for modeling, assessment and strategic decision-making by partners, existing management structures and to support awareness rising for the general public on Skadar/Shkodra Lake.

2. The main objectivebehind JDB is to facilitate access, use and dissemination of accurate information on a wide range of environmental and socio-economic indicators in a user friendly manner. By doing this, it is hoped that the database, among other things, will contribute significantly to the promotion of the use of Shkodra/Skadar Lake in policy making.

3. Role of JDB in the Lake Shkodra/Skadar Integrated Ecosystem Management Project

4. JDB was identified to serve as a digital database with available information and data on everything related to Lake Skadar-Shkodra. It is a be-national level database to facilitate the management and monitoring process towards the protection and sustainable development of this area

5. JDB is not only storage, but also a dissemination tool of all qualitative information generated by different sources of information based on several and diverse environmental data and socio-economic indicators. All indicators related to Shkodra/Skadar Lake, including are included and updated in JD. This enables all stakeholders to have access to data on a wide list of indicators that provide regional and local picture of changes within sectors.
