Name Modeling for DRP

Practice Modeling

Project Strengthening the Implementation Capacities for Nutrient Reduction and Transboun ...

Beneficiary country: Danube Countries

Region: Central and Eastern Europe Danube-Black Sea Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia

Details

Description: MONERIS nutrient model was adapted to the Danube River Basin and became the de facto standard for estimating loads. Approach allowed historical estimates to be calculated providing options to establish baseline values in the absence of direct monitoring data.

Comments: Danube River Basin

Implementation start date: 2006-01-01

Implementation end date: 2007-12-31

Results

Annual tons of nitrogen reduced: N/A

Annual tons of phosphorous reduced: N/A

Other outcomes: Model is used thorughout the region, German and Baltic. The potential benefit to provide projects with a harmonised approach to estimating nutirnet loads and to review different management scenarios for nutrient reduction. Model does need extensive data sets (in particular land use and terrain data from remote monitoring)
