The Secretary General of the OAS discusses the situation in Nicaragua
April 21, 2010

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza, expressed his deep concern about the events being reported by different national and international media sources from the city of Managua, capital of Nicaragua.

He emphasized the need to preserve institutionalization, respect the constituted authorities and resolve political differences, particularly among the powers of the State, through dialogue and in accordance with the procedures set out in the national legislation, especially regarding the need to guarantee the rights and liberties of citizens, including the physical integrity of all people.

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States continues to closely follow the development of events and reiterates its availability to collaborate however it may be needed.
