Baltic and European news
The Baltic Sea "risks rapidly turning into an ecological disaster zone" the European commission said on Tuesday as it launched a consultation on a planned EU strategy for the region (EED 13/02/08 http://www.endseuropedaily.com/24831). Environmental protection is one of four proposed priorities for the strategy and an accompanying action plan due in June 2009. Meanwhile, EU agriculture ministers have welcomed the commission's proposed "ecosystem approach" to reforming the bloc's common fisheries policy (CFP) in legislative proposal due in 2010.
