Denmark's environment ministry have announced a partnership with the Danish Shipowners' Association to further reduce sulphur emissions from ships. A joint statement issued on Wednesday sets a 90 per cent cut as a main goal but no deadline was given, it seems.
The initiative comes in response to new standards confirmed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in October (EED 13/10/08 http://www.endseuropedaily.com/26343). The ministry also announced an action plan intended to encourage the oil industry to meet the new standards and to develop "common initiatives in technology and research".
