Outcomes of the VII International Environmental Forum “Baltic Sea Day” released

 

  

BSD.JPGThe VII International Forum “Baltic Sea Day” was held in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, on March 22-23 2006. This Forum traditionally focuses on the ecological status and protection of the Baltic Sea marine environment and popularization of the Helsinki Commission's activities.

 This year the Forum's programme included plenary and sectional sessions on a wide range of topics, including the Russian-Finnish-Estonian co-operation in the Gulf of Finland, the quality of water and bottom sediments, the co-operation of subregional organisations, the environmental safety of the North-European Gas Pipeline project, as well as the marine protected areas.

 Having discussed the reports, participants of this year's Forum approved the following documents: 


 

Round Table Resolutions:

  •  Russian-Estonian-Finnish co-operation in the Gulf of Finland

 

  • Consolidation of co-operation of the Baltic Sea sub-regional organisations

 

  • Quality of water and bottom sediments in the Baltic Sea and methods of its estimation

 

  •  Ecology and tourism in the Baltic Sea Region

 

  • Ensuring environmental safety during implementation of hte North-European Gas Pipeline construction project in the Baltic Sea

 

  • Marine environment protection and MPAs
 
  •  Sustainable agriculture
