HELCOM delegation to visit Lukoil terminal in Vysotsk

 

Helsinki, 15 September (HELCOM) – At the invitation of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and Russia’s largest oil producer Lukoil, a delegation of the Helsinki Commission Secretariat, led by the Executive Secretary, Ms Anne Christine Brusendorff, will visit the recently opened Vysotsk oil export terminal in the Gulf of Finland on Tuesday, 20 September 2005.

The delegation will tour the oil terminal, owned and operated by Lukoil, and meet with the company officials to discuss environmental safety measures and environmental monitoring at the facility. HELCOM representatives will also have an opportunity to observe the loading of crude oil onto a tanker.

Lukoil terminal, which is located on the island of Vysotsk, about 130 km north-west of St. Petersburg, was commissioned on June 16, 2004. According to Lukoil, it is intended for oil and oil products transshipment for exports to Europe and the United States. The design capacity of the terminal is 10,7 million tons of oil and oil products a year. In the future, it can be increased to 15 or 17 million tons.
