The Seventh Meeting of the Helsinki Commission Monitoring and Assessment Group (HELCOM MONAS) will develop a new assessment and monitoring strategy where the enlargement of EU will be taken into account. The Meeting of the Group will be convened from 25 to 29 October in Tallinn, Estonia.
The aim of HELCOM monitoring and assessment activities is to provide targeted, timely and reliable information on the sources and quantities of harmful substances into the Baltic Sea and their effects in the marine environment. Also the biodiversity and nature conservation aspects will be better included into the new environmental assessment procedures.
The Meeting will adopt for publication ca. 20 Indicator Fact Sheets which are showing the latest trends e.g. in pollution load, plankton blooms, oxygen depleted areas and illegal oil spills.
