HELCOM delegation to visit Russian oilfield on the Baltic Sea shelf

A delegation of the Helsinki Commission Secretariat will visit Russian Kravtsovskoye (D-6) oilfield on the Baltic Sea shelf near the shores of Kaliningrad region from 29 September to 1 October, 2004.

The trip is arranged at the invitation of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and Russian oil company Lukoil, which is developing the oilfield. A delegation from the Lithuanian Ministry of the Environment is also invited to visit the oilfield.

Both delegations will tour Lukoil’s oil platform on the Baltic Sea shelf, visit the oil station “Romanovo” and the oil terminal in Ezhevskiy. During a working meeting in Lukoil’s Kaliningrad office, the company’s officials will report on the environmental safety measures and environmental monitoring during oil production at the oil deposit.

The Kravtsovskoye (D-6) deposit was opened in 1983 and sits 22,5 km from Kaliningrad region’s shore. Assessments show oil reserves of 21,5 million tonnes and recoverable reserves of 9,1 million tonnes. Production at the site began in July 2004.

While in Kaliningrad region the HELCOM delegation will also visit the Curonian Spit State National Park, which is located near Lukoil’s oil platform on the sea shelf.
