LTBP-GIS-Newsletter. Issue No. 1, 1999

» Dataset of the month

NRI received a copy of the 1km resolution Digital Elevation Model for the region. From this, we have defined hydrological features, such as slope maps, a flow direction and flow accumulation model and a set of watersheds for all the major rivers emptying into the lake. The yellow line on the map below defines the catchment of Lake Tanganyika derived from these other datasets. It highlights the large area from the Malagarasi River, the closeness of the catchment around the west side of the lake and the extension of the catchment northwards up the Rusizi River. All water passing through the Lukuga Outlet will have originated within this yellow line.
