Description: Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Programme (SKEP) is the result of a one-year planning process, which combined a rigorous scientific process with broad land-user participation to identify and generate broad consensus around an ultimate vision and set of conservation targets for the Succulent Karoo. The SKEP vision is to have: "The people of the Succulent Karoo take ownership of their unique living landscape in a way that maintains biodiversity and improves livelihoods now and into perpetuity.

Additional: The program has recently undergone a transition in that the coordination function has moved out of CI, an international NGO into Namibian and South African institutions - the Namibian Nature Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) in Namibia, and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) under the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT), respectively. For ease of administration, it was agreed that each institution would host the program according to its host institutions requirements and communicate about the program independently. The two units of the program therefore act independently but are related to each other through a Memorandum of Cooperation. The SKEPPIES Fund: It aims to provide accessible small to medium scale funding for projects with combined development and conservation objectives.
