"A Journey to the country of Water Dipolar of its
Majesty the Dnipro river"

Short description of the project: to collect and to analyze as much interesting information about the water as possible. To define the properties of water and make a qualitative analysis of the Dnipro and other rivers water (spring water, water-pipe water, mineral water etc.)

Full description of the project: the work is done in some route or directions across the country Water Dipolar of its Majesty the Dnipro river. At the fires stage the retinue of its Majesty the Dnipro makes up a map of the journey. To succeed in it all participants have to be registered: they may send their photos (if they wish), a picture or a photo connected with the topic of the discussion –Water, some interesting questions about it, about the Dnipro. To be registered participants also take special names they want and decide what persons from the kingdom they would like to meet. This stage lasts one month.

At the second stage water Dipolar  together with his assistants chooses the most interesting questions of the participants of the journey. Participants are given one week to answer the complex of the questions (2-3). The assistants and retinues of Water Dipolar work with the answers and define the best and the most original of them. The second journey takes 1-2 months.

The third direction is devoted to studying chemical properties of water. Dipolar and his assistants conduct practical lessons and then discuss the results of the work. The third stage lasts 2-3 weeks.

The fourth route is the most exciting, the longest, the most difficult and the most dangerous. The travelers make a qualitative analysis of the Dnipro water and some other water. This journey lasts 3 months.

At the last stage Dipolar and his assistants sum up the results and put them into the web site.

Ages: 12-13 years and older

Term of work of the project: one year.

Expected results: journey to the country of Water Dipolar, its Majesty the Dnipro and getting as much useful information as possible.

Importance of the project for other people: in spite of the fact that there is a lot of water on the Earth, it’s too little. It’s obvious why a lot: there are oceans, glaciers, rivers and rains. Why little? – Because mankind spoils more water than it can purify, because the bigger part of water on the planet is not water but a salt solution.

There is a saying: “We live on a powder keg, water is a delayed-action bomb”. So each of us has to do all he can to prevent this bomb from exploding – we must spare pure water, cherish it as our treasure, avert the danger of water pollution.

Ancient Romans found it rather difficult to use beautiful words when expressing well-known things. In our project we’ll try to do just the same when systematizing known properties of water, investigating the state of the Dnipro basin, the river which is the main source of fresh water for a lot of people, who live on it’ banks.

"Hydronyms of inland waters of Ukraine"

Attention! Attention!

All who are curious, witty, persistent and not indifferent are invited to participate in creative activities – to take part in our new telecommunicate project.

The subject for discussion has been dear and interesting to you since childhood. In hot sunny days you enjoyed the freshness of a lake, a river or a rivulet. When you grew up you heard from older people how these rivers and lakes got their names. The legends were romantic and sad, interesting and exciting. And though sometimes “the name exists but there is no river any more” (as Ukrainian poetess Lina Kostenko wrote), the story of its origin is unique, it goes back to remote ages of the history and  there are no indifferent to it.

In a modest name, in a native dear word

We feel the ages’ depth,

Our forefathers teach us

How to love and honor ancient times.

Dmytro Bilos.

So, we invite all those who wish and are not indifferent – teachers and students - to participate in creative activities and

To say a word about the native land

Sparing no efforts

And caring about popular science style

Dmytro Bilos.

1. Name of the project: “Hydronyms of inland waters of Ukraine”

2.The main aim: to involve participants into investigation and native land studying, to enlarge their knowledge about its hedonism – the origins of rivers, lakes and springs names; to stir up students’ patriotic feelings; to teach them to investigate and find necessary materials in different sources of knowledge; to deal with people, to interview them.

3. Short description of the project: the Earth is a book, in which the history of mankind is written in geographic nomenclature; the Earth is a book of the history of your nation. Explanation of hydronyms content and the changes that took place during the time of their existence.

4. Full description of the project: after getting information about the origin of hydronyms’ names in your land with the help of old-residents and investigation studies of special literature from various sources all the participants send their stories, legends about the names of the rivers, lakes, springs and streams.

Tell about the unique tales connected with these names in your native land and your creative work find will discover the essence of well known strangers from the Hydrosphere country, those which are near us but we seldom think about the meanings of their names, origin, components they consist of, their background – roots of ancient times, historic past or people fortunes and mode of life. It’s necessary to indicate the source of information (old-residents, archives, special reference literature). If the legend was written from an old-resident’s words give his first name, patronymic and surname, date of birth and address.

You can also add information about picturesque places connected with a definite river, lake or spring.

5. Design: size A-4, print 12, interval 2, margin 2-1

6. Ages: 10-16 years for students, any for teachers.

9. Expected results:

-creation of the web site;

-edition of collected creative works of participants.

Importance of the project: to make people think about the changes which take place in their lives, to involve them into creative work by means of communicating and research work, to unite people of different generations for this work; to collect valuable teaching and educational material.
