Project cost – 8860 $ Transnational project “Establishment of Regional Cooperation in the Field of Hazard and Impact Assessment for the Potential Environmental Disasters at the Territories of the East-West Energy Corridor” has been implemented in (2002-2003) with granting support of East-East Program of OSI/Azerbaijan. Goal of the project is to implement an independent expertise of potential environmental disasters at the territories of East-West energy corridor and establish the regional cooperation on hazard and impact assessment. Project is implemented in partnership with Georgian Geophysical Society and Disaster Management Research Center of the Middle East Technical University (Turkey). Project cost – 19070 $ Project “Promoting Climate Change Mitigation in the North-East Azerbaijan – Increasing CO2 Sequestration in Wood and Supplying Communities with Alternative Firewood” (2004-2005): funded by CIDA; partners – Tazakend municipality. Goal: establishment of agroforestry plantation of rapidly growing wood species with short cutting period with their further supply to local populations as fuelwood and merchantable wood. Project cost – 60340 $ (22700 $ - contribution of grantee) Project “Promoting the Sustainable Development of Local Communities of the Caspian Region of North-East Azerbaijan: Alternative Supply of Local Population with Alternative Energy and Material Biological Resources” (started in 2006): funded by CEP MSGP. I am interested in the level changes of the Caspian Sea resulting from deglaciation and the impact of the elevated waters and sudden floods from glacial dam collapses on huan populations.
I made a presentaion to a scientific IGCP conference in Russia relating to both the Caspian and Black Seas. In it I demonstrated the probability that the Caspian Sea linked to the Black Sea as late as 5000 years ago. A fundamental problem seems to exist in the reliabilit of radiocarbin dating that makes all marine organic material much older than it is. This needs to be investigated. Strandlines in the Azerbaijan landscape also indicate much higher sea levels than the current scientifically accepted values. For example I have detected strandlines as high as 230 m above sea level wheras the the maximum height of the spillway is considered to be only 50 m. Also the maximum height of the Caspian Sea over the past 10,000 years is considered to be minus 18 m. This observation does not sit comfortaly with the archaeological evidence of coastal dwellings found and other raised terraces at around +120m above mean sea level.
No.
I am an independent researcher. Previously I was employed by BP Azerbaijan as an environmental manager. It was during this time ( 2000 - 2003) that I became intrigued by the many puzzles posed by the Caspian Sea level transgression. These need to be investigated scientifically and academically. The aim of contacting the CEP is to share information and consider ways and means of investigation.
