Home > Programme > Climate Change Potal > Project > Policy CO-ORDINATIONPolicy and Science Pacific island countries and territories need be able to plan and respond to climate change, variability and sea level rise. To do this the capacity of national climate change scientists, policy and decision makers needs to be developed and sustained and wider public awareness and education is needed. The coordinator is activite in promoting the tools for doing this such as the SPREP Website, resource materials and climate related tools. Conventions Implementation Supported To support Pacific island Parties to the UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol and other international processes such as the Commission on Sustainable Development and the Ten Year Review of the Barbados Programme of Action, the Secetariat also assists with preparatory meetings, briefings, the coordination of meetings and side-events and with information and advice. The Secretariat is also planning to assist countries with the production of the Second National Communications and plans for a dedicated position for this are in the pipeline Projects- Proposals and Facilitating Implementation SPREP provides assistance apon request with project design for climate related activities for its members. Pacific Islands Regional Framework for Action on Climate Change, Climate Variability and Sea Level Rise A Pacific Islands Regional Framework for Climate Change, Climate Variability and Sea Level Rise was developed for 2000-2004. The Framework provides a strategic framework to address the climate related needs of the region and is the product of Pacific island nations, donors, multilateral institutions and regional organisations. SPREP is currently developing a new framework for 2005-2009.
