Governance
Democracy is the cornerstone of the Organization, and thus strengthening democracy and promoting good governance is one of its primary tasks. But democratic sustainability in the region does not only depend on clean elections; it depends, fundamentally, on the conviction of every woman and every man that this system leads to a better life. Based on this premise, the OAS works to reinforce democratic values and consolidate institutions. It promotes a dynamic exchange of ideas about democratic practices, not only among governments but also political parties, parliaments and congresses, academic institutions, civil society organizations and others.
