Racism and intolerance are two of the oldest and most deeply rooted problems that the nations of the Western Hemisphere face today. These issues are deeply entrenched throughout the societies of the region, but despite this, the Organization of American States (OAS) still seeks to eliminate these poisonous ideas from the Hemisphere to as great a degree as possible. To this end, the Permanent Council of the OAS has set up a Working Group to draft an Inter-American Convention against Racism and All forms of Discrimination and Intolerance which will seek to eradicate the diseases of racism and intolerance once and for all in the Western Hemisphere.
