Historically, women have faced greater challenges and continue to struggle for equal rights in certain societies. The OAS is committed to working towards, and ensuring, equal political, economic and social rights and opportunities for all peoples of the Hemisphere, regardless of gender, and has taken a leading role in supporting women’s movements throughout the Americas. The Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) is a specialized entity charged with overseeing the work of the Organization in its efforts to promote gender equality in the region.
