Third Meeting of National Correspondents of the Strategic Action Programme for the Conservation of Biological Diversity in the Mediterranean Region (SAP BIO) / Mid-term Workshop for the MedMPAnet Project
The Third Meeting of National Correspondents of the Strategic Action Programme for the Conservation of Biological Diversity in the Mediterranean Region (SAP BIO) / Mid-term Workshop for the MedMPAnet Project (“Regional Project for the Development of a Mediterranean Marine and Coastal Protected Areas (MPAs) Network through the boosting of MPA Creation and Management”, part of the MedPartnership and financially supported by EC, AECID and FFEM) will be held in Malaga, on 4-6 July 2012.
The meetings will be hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain and the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (IUCN-Med).
The main objectives of the meeting are:
- To discuss and organize the updating of SAP BIO in line with the new CBD Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and Aichi targets for 2020;
- To revise the development of ongoing and new regional projects regarding the implementation of SAP BIO regional priorities: MedMPAnet Project (network of Mediterranean Protected Areas in coastal areas); Open Seas SPAMIs Project, phase III (boosting of Mediterranean Protected Areas embracing open seas and deep seas); Mediterranean wetlands rehabilitation Project proposal, phase I (restoring degraded wetlands functionality by implementing an ecosystem approach);
- To discuss a first draft of indicators of climate change impact on marine and coastal biodiversity to be measured in Marine protected areas.
