PCBs Sound Management Workshop in Turkey

PCBs in Turkey With the support of the Turkish Ministry Environment and Urbanization, UNEP/MAP Med POL programme trained eight local experts on the “Notification process under the Basel Convention, O.E.C.D. and E.U. to import or export PCBs”, in Ankara, on 15 January 2015.
The workshop aimed at training experts on the notification process, with regard to importing and exporting PCBs from and/or to Turkey, following the restriction and guidance of BASEL CONVENTION, O.E.C.D and E.U. It also aimed at training them on screening the management process of PCBs quantity that will be transported for disposal from Turkey to France.
The training program was focused on the control of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and their disposal, as stipulated in the BASEL Convention; on the EC regulation no 1013/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2006 on shipments of waste; and the Guidance Manual for the implementation of O.E.C.D council decision c(2001)107/final, as amended, on the control of transboundary movements of wastes destined for recovery operations”.
The activity comes under sub-component 2.3 of the MedPartnership project: “Environmentally Sound Management of equipment, stocks and wastes containing or contaminated by PCBs in national electricity companies of Mediterranean countries” implemented in Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt and Turkey.
