Now that some ‘hot spot’ areas have been identified, it is recommended that ambient monitoring replaces historic data collection. A monitoring scheme is to be set up and coordinated with the Caspian Centre for Pollution Monitoring in I.R. Iran. A major aim will be to develop more simple monitoring programmes which target environmental management, concentrating on harmonised procedures for fewer (but key) parameters taken at greater frequency. It is essential that access to the data held in the databases of all the centres within the Caspian Environment Programme, the national expert reports, and in GIS maps, is made available at appropriate professional level. GIS applications will be utilised appropriately to promote use of electronic information and improve understanding, including exploration of the possibilities and functionalities of the Internet. |
