A data collection scheme was initiated in June 1998. The general concept is to concentrate on amassing raw data for analysis by the CCPC, from which to pin-point specific problem sources. Data from three years in particular has been sought: 1990 ‘high activity’ and 1998 and 1999 ‘low activity’. From the analysis carried out so far, it seems that compliance monitoring has been limited and data from which to assess environmental impact is sparse. An obvious first step is, therefore, to develop ways to achieve harmonisation of chemical analysis, the choice of parameters to be monitored, and standardisation of the pre-treatment of samples and sampling procedures. |
