DLIST has opened a new node in Lüderitz
Lying in the driest and southernmost region of Namibia, where diamond mining is downscaling, Lüderitz is seeing the growth of new activities such as tourism, conservation and aquaculture. Access to, and sharing of information thus become ever more vital, and that is where DLIST becomes a useful tool. Together with Mr Oranje Jacob and other local partners, the DLIST Team recently opened a new DLIST node at the Lüderitz Waterfront.

Like other DLIST nodes, the aim is to provide space to exchange information, discuss, and network with the growing DLIST community—all to support participatory development and local initiatives. To this end, DLIST has equipped the node with a computer, ideally to allow the youth to access DLIST and the internet in general, and appointed Remona Katamila to manage the activities at the node.

But more than the youth, the node will hopefully help the wider Lüderitz community to link up, discuss and share information with the DLIST network of people in the Benguela region. Having a node in Lüderitz will allow the local people to pass their views across to the wide DLIST community, making them aware of their concerns and allowing them to learn about Lüderitz from a distance; and indeed to receive some useful input in return.

In addition to using DLIST on the internet, information can be shared through the use of posters and brochures, environmental events, workshops, breakfast meetings, ecoclubs... Every DLIST node is different as it meets local needs, so we look forward to seeing how the Lüderitz node will develop. If you are in the area, do come and bring us you ideas!
