Description: |
Have you ever wondered how people in the past used to store their grain, maize? I could not help asking myself this question as we were driving past a grain storage facility, with their characteristic tall silos. The large milling companies store grain in silos, with the use of sophisticated pesticides to kill maize pests, but these days people are more sceptical about the pesticides used for grain storage. Indigenous African methods could be investigated and applied at a large scale, for example those which were used by the Nguni people in South Africa. |
