Readings on Larval Fish Identification

The Regional Larval Fish Experts leading the UNEP/GEF South China Sea Project – SEAFDEC Regional Training Workshop on Larval Fish Identification and Fish Early Life History Science recommended a number of readings for course participants. These readings covered topics including: comparisons of different fish egg and larval fish sampling gear; evaluation of the use of light traps to sample ichthyoplankton; methodology for sampling larval fish in mangrove and coral reef areas; gears and methods for larval fish sampling in estuaries and coastal swamps; and the use of open source GIS software and Google Earth for the mapping of fish larvae distribution and abundance in the South China Sea. These readings were discussed by participants in relation to the development of a regionally agreed procedure for the conduct of fish eggs and larvae surveys. Please follow the links below to access the recommended readings used during the larval fish identification workshop.
