GLOBE is an international
organisation of legislators from all over the world who are
committed to enhancing international cooperation between
parliamentarians on global environmental issues. Founded in
1989, GLOBE now has over 1,200 members in over 100 countries,
who work through seven regional offices.
Both the ACOPS
Chairman (Lord Hunt of Chesterton) and the UK Vice-President
(Baroness Wilcox of Plymouth) act as distinguished members of
GLOBE UK (Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced
Environment). In addition, ACOPS’ Vice-Presidents from Africa
Ministers Kulundu (Kenya) and Diagne Fada (Senegal) have also
joined GLOBE International. Its Members also include the US Vice
Presidents of ACOPS. To this end, ACOPS has signed
a MOU
with GLOBE International
as a tool for
working closely on specific projects, such as the
GEF NPA
Arctic project which
contains a segment on improvement of legislation in the Russian
Federation.
