In many areas of the Western Hemisphere landmines continue to be a dangerous threat. Very often landmines are long-forgotten remnants of conflicts long past and yet they retain their ability to destroy lives and livelihoods in areas that are still struggling to recover. Eliminating this threat is essential to furthering development which is why the OAS maintains projects devoted to neutralizing mine fields, providing mine-risk education, and assistance to victims, as well as those aimed at stockpile destruction and passing resolutions for a landmine-free Hemisphere.
