The application of economic instruments to solid waste management in Pacific island countries and territories

This guide consolidates information on the application of several Economic Instruments to the solid waste sector. It is primarily intended as a guide for municipal solid waste and designated special wastes such as
used oil and lead-acid batteries. However, the principles explained herein can be applied to other waste streams within Pacific Islands and Territories. Where possible, specific examples from the Pacific region have been used to illustrate the application of EI. Some examples can be found in the Caribbean islands, and have been cited where Pacific region examples could not be found, simply because of the many similarities (resource constraints, environment, culture, etc) between islands in the Caribbean and in the Pacific.
