The Fifth Meeting of the Regional Task Force on Economic Valuation was successfully convened in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia from 21st -24th August 2006. The meeting was attended by all the government designated experts of the Task Force and the regional expert, Dr. Tridoyo Kusumastanto. The Task Force is mandated to derive estimates of the Total Economic Value of the four major habitats bordering the South China Sea for use in the cost-benefit analysis of action versus non-action scenarios in the regional Strategic Action Programme.
Key outputs of the meeting include:
- Revised draft regional guidelines on the economic valuation of the goods and services of coastal habitats
- Updated regional datasets of economic values of the goods and services from mangrove, coral reef, seagrass, and wetland habitats,
- A regionally agreed method and procedure to derive regional values of the goods and services of coastal habitats,
- An agreed list of data and information needed from the regional working groups for the habitat sub-components for the cost-benefit analysis of action versus non-action scenarios, and
- An agreed syllabus and timetable for the regional training course on economic valuation.
