Tim Carruthers is currently the Program Manager for the Integration and Application Network (IAN), based at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES). IAN was established to facilitate effective science communication for the development of stronger links between research science, management, educators and the public.
His research background is sea grass eco-physiology, specifically how sea grass can be used as an indicator of ecosystem condition and to monitor ecosystem change. From working in the temperate Indian Ocean to tropical Pacific, Caribbean and temperate Atlantic Oceans he has developed habitat scale syntheses of major processes, features and threats within multiple coastal systems. Currently, Tim works extensively with the National Park Service, NGO’s and scientists to develop synthetic science communication products to multiple audiences as well as developing frameworks for assessing and tracking natural resource condition.
