Up one levelPrespa Fish Monitoring - Transboundary Monitoring System
The video shows the launching of the monitoring of fish in Prespa under the piloting of the Transboundary Monitoring System. The piloting was launched at the start of 2010 and is expected to last for a full year. For the first time ever, all three countries sharing the Prespa Lake Basin will initiate the transboundary fish and fisheries monitoring, fulfilling one of the main conditions for integrated management of the Lake’s fish populations. With the development of the Transboundary Monitoring System supported by the Society for Protection of Prespa (SPP) and co-funding by the UNDP GEF Prespa project, the stakeholders of the three co-basin states will lay the foundation for the establishment of a sustainable monitoring system, and fulfilling one of the main conditions for integrated management of the lake’s fish populations. This very unique initiative already serves as a good model of cooperation which is being shared internationally. The project will support the authorities to build a joint environmental monitoring database which will provide basis for the future management decisions regarding the Prespa ecosystem.
