Transboundary Water Management
The UNDP-GEF Prespa regional project is helping address key issues affecting water resources in the Prespa Lakes basin. This includes interventions at both the national and transboundary level ranging from improved water management and agricultural practices in the productive sectors to establishment and functioning of a transboundary water management Working Group.
Following up on the commitment by the three states to jointly address critical water management issues in Prespa, the Trans-boundary component engaged an international water management specialist to conduct a rapid situational analysis of the current state of water management practices, the status of the enabling environment and develop a plan of implementation. The international water managements specialist prepared a rapid assessment and situational analysis on the ‘state-of-play’ in terms of current water management practices in the Prespa Lakes Basin both at national and trans-boundary levels, and outlined detailed implementation plan and terms of reference for the future Trans-boundary Water Management Working Group, and an international expert to support the work of the group. However, despite number of efforts and strategies to instigate the establishment of the group either independently or as part of the existing bodies (PPCC, PPMC), the group was not established due to number of reasons.
This section contains timelines, main reports, minutes of meeting and relevant working documents/ consultation drafts related to the Transboundary Water Management Planning Process in the Prespa Lakes Basin.
