Law and policy seminar to promote regional ocean governance

THE Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem (YSLME) Project’s Program Management Office with Ocean University of China and Korea University will organize a seminar on the law and policy on regional ocean governance in Qingdao, China on November 17-18, 2018.

The seminar aims to explore on how to improve the ecosystem-based regional ocean governance in the YSLME regions by discussing several critical topics, both in theory and practice, and learn from the experiences of other large marine ecosystem regions and regional seas.

One of expected output of the YSLME Strategic Action Programme is to consolidate a long-term regional environmental governance framework and strengthen legal framework to fulfil the obligation of participating countries under various Multilateral Environmental Agreements related with coasts and oceans.

The framework of YSLME project’s regional and national governance component seeks to sustain these accomplished results and promote more effective governance, reforms on institutions, policies, and laws, with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme Global Environmental Finance and United Nations Office for Project Services.
