Environmentally sound management of PCBs introduced to experts in Albania
More than 50 participants attended the workshop organized by CPRAC and MEDPOL with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Water Administration of Albania on Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) management in Tirana from 21 to 24 January 2014. The workshop aimed at introducing the environmentally sound management (ESM) of PCBs to local experts. Coming from various ministries and government institutions, transformer maintenance facilities, laboratories, private companies as well as NGOs and academics, participants were also trained on sampling and analyzing PCBs by using the semi-mobile analyzer L2000DX. The practical training was conducted at the CEZ Transformer Repair Station Unit, including taking oil samples from transformers and drums and assessing repaired and out-of-use transformers present onsite. The workshop comes within the framework of the MedPartnership sub-component 2.3: Environmentally Sound Management of Equipment, stocks and wastes containing or contaminated by PCBs in national electricity companies of the Mediterranean countries. Participants were from ministries and government institutions, transformer maintenance facilities, laboratories, private companies as well as NGOs and academics.
