UNESCO-IHP: Managing Coastal Aquifers and Groundwater in the Mediterranean- Spain

Within the framework of TIAC '12 to be held in Alicante, Spain, UNESCO-IHP will be organizing a Special Session on "Managing Coastal Aquifers and Groundwater in the Mediterranean" where the MedPartnership component on "Managing Coastal Aquifer and Groundwater" will be presented. Thereafter, a PAP/RAC representative will make a presentation on "Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and coastal aquifers in the Mediterranean".

Other issues to be discussed in the session include: Seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers in the Mediterranean: science and management, Groundwater Dependent Coastal Ecosystems in the Mediterranean, Coastal aquifer management and seawater intrusion in Israel, Groundwater characterization in the coastal aquifer of Bou Areg and the Nador Lagoon in Morocco, Costal aquifers and climate change in Mediterranean islands, Management and protection of karstic springs in Croatia, Integrated land and coastal aquifer management in the coastal oases of Gabes in Tunisia. The TIAC'12 Conference provides a platform for the presentation and discussion of the results of the activities under the UNESCO-IHP’s executed component on "Management of Coastal Aquifer and Groundwater" of the MedPartnership.
