Workshop to Introduce environmentally sound management of PCBs in Bosnia Herzegovina

More than 50 particiPCBs Management Training in Mostar by Manolo Clar Massanetpants attended the workshop organized by CPRAC and MEDPOL with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia-Herzegovina on Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) management in Mostar in September 2013.

The workshop aimed at introducing the environmentally sound management of PCBs to local experts, and training them on the sampling and analysis of PCBs by using the semi-mobile analyzer L2000DX.

It also included a visit to the Capljina Power Plant to assess its infrastructure with regard to the possibility of temporarily store PCBs. Participants were trained on taking samples from oil drums using different types of tools and assessing phased-out transformers.

The workshop comes within the framework of the MedPartnership subcomponent 2.3: Environmentally Sound Management of Equipment, stocks and wastes containing or contaminated by PCBs in national electricity companies of the Mediterranean countries. Participants were from ministries and government institutions, power plants, refineries, laboratories, private companies as well as water management experts and academics.
