Consultation workshop on the archipelago of Kerkennah in Tunisia
As part of the MedPartnership sister project “Integration of Climatic Variability and Change into National Strategies for the Implementation of the ICZM Protocol in the Mediterranean, the second consultation workshop on the archipelago of Kerkennah in Tunisia was held on 27 and 28 January 2015.
Forty participants including scientists, policy makers, representatives of Tunisian national and local institutions, as well as representatives of the fishing community took part to the workshop. Discussions evolved around the role played by ecosystems to ensure livelihoods for the archipelago; the threats on ecosystems; and ways to protect them.
The objective of the workshop was to consult local experts, present the preliminary results and collect their local expertise to validate the data and information coming from preliminary studies. The Tunisian agency for coastal area protection (APAL), UNEP GRID Geneva and Plan Bleu, all partners in the Kerkennah demonstration presented the progress made so far.
The workshop was facilitated by Plan Bleu through the Climagine methodology for participatory approach with the support of GWP Med - Tunisia.
