UNESCO-IHP Expert Meeting on "Coastal Aquifer Management in the Mediterranean"

UNESCO-IHP is organizing a regional Expert Meeting on "Coastal Aquifer Management in the Mediterranean" focusing on management issues and challenges including aquifer vulnerability and protection, submarine springs and seawater intrusion. UNESCO-IHP is inviting experts and institutions from the Mediterranean region (including Croatia, Montenegro, Turkey, Palestinian Authority, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Italy, Greece, Spain and France) to share their experiences, methodologies and case-studies related to coastal aquifers. This meeting is organized under the framework of UNESCO-IHP’s Sub-component 1.1 on “Managing Coastal Aquifer and Groundwater” of the Strategic Partnership for the Mediterranean Sea Large Marine Ecosystem (MedPartnership). This meeting will be also a preparatory meeting for the organization of a Side Event on this topic at the 6th World Water Forum to be held in March 2012 in Marseille, France.

The UNESCO-IHP Expert Meeting will be co-organized and hosted by the Ville de Cassis, France, and g.e.m.i.s.c. (Cassis-Mysterious River) on 28-29 November 2011.
