SPA/RAC: Identifying important conservation sites along the Lebanese coast

Print Send

SPA/RAC carried out a field survey, from 6 to 10 June 2011, along the Lebanese coast to identify ecologically important sites to be extensively surveyed in a further project stage in 2012. The survey team has first taken stock of the main action and projects undertaken in Lebanon in relation to marine protected areas and has visited several sites considered as important for the conservation of marine habitats and species. Eventually three sites were identified, based on their ecological importance, the existence of threats and feasibility considerations: Raoucheh cliffs and caves, Ras Chekaa cliffs and Enfeh Peninsula.
