Training Workshop for Environmental Inspectorate and Marine Monitoring in Alexandria, Egypt.
Fifty participants from a number of Egyptian ministries, institutes, local authorities and organizations participated in a national training workshop for environmental inspectorate and marine monitoring held in Alexandria, Egypt, from 8 to 10 December 2014.
The workshop was facilitated by UNEP/MAP MED POL programme within the framework of the MedPartnership project, in close coordination with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA).
The 3-day workshop aimed at developing technical capacities of the environmental inspectorate in using up-to-date pollution control and monitoring tools, and enhancing cooperation among inspectorate and marine pollution monitoring bodies at national and regional levels.
he main focus was on training participants on new elements related to compliance and enforcement, discussing ways and means to strengthen the capacities of environmental bodies to enforce national legislation. The workshop also included an overview of the available monitoring programmes for the Mediterranean Sea, Lakes and Nile River, and introduction of the ELVs/EQSs web-based tool.
The workshop also included a site visit to the National Paper Company in Abu Qir area, where participants had the opportunity to practice the administrative and technical inspection procedures, introduced during the workshop.
