New publication on "Making MPAs Work" shares lessons learned in the Mediterranean

"Making Marine Protected Areas Work - Lessons Learned in the Mediterranean" is the title of the new publication, released by WWF Mediterranean within the framework of the MedPartnership, providing easily understandable and useful guidance to all practitioners working to protect and manage the seas around the world. The report aims raise awareness on the role that well designed and effectively managed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) can play in helping to maintain and rehabilitate the health of our seas.

The document provides a series of lessons learned based on activities, achievements and experiences of the MedPAN South Project, especially focusing on MPA planning and management. It provides an outline of the steps necessary for the entire life cycle of an MPA, from creation to a fully operational state, and highlights through case studies and first-hand experiences the challenges identified by stakeholders and how good practices can be implemented towards overcoming these challenges.
