Our location

The REC's head office is located in Szentendre, Hungary.

How to get there:

By bicycle

There is a bicycle path from Budapest all the way to Szentendre, although it may be difficult to follow in places. Alternatively, bicycles can be transported in the specially designated compartments of the suburban train (HEV) for the price of a regular ticket. You can park your bicycle in the REC’s covered bicycle storage facility.

By bus

A frequent bus service between Budapest and Szentendre operates each day between 05:20 and 22:40. Buses depart from Budapest from the Újpest-Városkapu metro station (blue line). In Szentendre, the closest stop is Danubius Szálló, about 200 metres north of the REC. The journey takes about 40 minutes. http://www.menetrendek.hu/cgi-bin/menetrend/html.cgi

By suburban train

A suburban train (HEV) runs to Szentendre from Batthyany ter in Budapest (on the red metro line). Trains leave regularly (every 10 to 30 minutes), and the journey to Szentendre, where the train terminates, takes about 45 minutes. The REC is about 2 kilometres from the HEV station (a 20-minute walk or a short taxi ride). (Please see the map of Szentendre.) The detailed HEV schedule can be found at http://www.bkv.hu/english/hev/index.html

By boat

As indicated on the map of Szentendre, there is a boat station close to the REC. Boats depart from Budapest (Vigado ter) to Szentendre every day at 09:00 and 14:00, and from Szentendre to Budapest at 11:45 and 17:55 during the summer months only. The journey takes about an hour and a half. A one-way ticket costs about HUF 750 (EUR 3), and a return ticket about HUF 1,100 (EUR 4.5).

By Airport Minibus

The Airport Minibus service charges a fixed price for a transfer to the REC. Tickets can be purchased on arrival at the airport from the Airport Minibus desk. For your return to the airport, you will need to phone 296-8555 at least one day in advance to arrange for a minibus to pick you up. (On the way to Szentendre, it is likely that you will be the last passenger to be dropped off, which can take up to two hours.) Further information in English about Budapest’s Ferihegy Airport can be found on the website http://www.xpatloop.com/info/31.

By taxi

The journey from the centre of Budapest to the REC will cost up to HUF 15,000 (EUR 60), and up to HUF 12,000 (EUR 47) from the airport with the official taxi company Zona Taxi. Reliable and recommended Budapest taxi companies include Fotaxi (Tel: 222-2222); Taxi2000 (Tel: 200-0000); 6x6 Taxi (Tel: 266-6666); and City Taxi (Tel: 211-1111). All the taxi companies in Szentendre offer good prices and a reliable service (for example Dunakanyar Taxi, Tel: [26] 311-111). You are always advised to check that the meter is reset before your journey commences.
